Landscape Design & Consultation Services

Welcome to Resilience Design.

Specializing in urban and rural homesteads, landscape designer and horticulturist Mulysa Melco brings over 25 years of experience and a life-long passion for nature and ecological living to her practice.

Creating productive, multi-functional spaces that support sustainable living is my goal. I help clients tap into natural abundance right where they are, taking into consideration the unique characteristics of the site, their time and resources and their personal style.

I design landscapes to enhance habitat for people, plants and wildlife. My approach incorporates Permaculture principles and an awareness of needing to re-envision how we use our land and resources as our society transitions to lower energy consumption. I believe there are myriad powerful, positive and pleasurable changes we can make in our daily lives – starting in our own yards.

Landscape Design Coaching

Do you have ideas about how you’d like to use your yard, how it could look, feel and what kinds of plants you might like to grow – but you’re not sure how to plan it out?

  • Budget-friendly option for those who need a plan for their yard and want to be hands-on with the planning process.

  • Gain a deeper understanding of your site and get experience with the permaculture landscape design process.

  • Get the confidence and tools you need to transform your yard into a place you love to be, that supports your needs and the local ecosystem.

Through a series of coaching sessions, you’ll create your own landscape plan tailored to your budget, time and interests – and the microclimates of your site. It’s an opportunity to learn about whole systems design while exploring the possibilities of your site with expert guidance and support. By the last session you’ll have created a custom master plan and plant list for your site.

Session 1 – Base map, site analysis, zone and sector analysis
Session 2 – Concept planning of landscape elements, spaces and systems
Session 3 – Layout plan and material choices
Session 4 – Planting diagram, guilds and plant list

The fee for the individual coaching program is starts at $850 for typical urban residential lots and includes 4 work sessions at your site (90 min each). Talk with Mulysa about pricing for other types of properties and group rates.

About Our Process

What is the landscape design process like? Each design studio has their own process. Here is our general flow through the design phase:

Initial Consultation The design phase begins with a meeting on site where we talk about your big-picture goals and needs/wishes. We take a look at the opportunities and challenges your site presents, and talk about your scope and initial budget considerations.

Concept Phase We present a few different scenarios of how the spaces, hardscapes and different types of plantings could be arranged. We then weave your feedback into a final design.

Final Design The final design has a plan layer with the layout design including hardscapes and a layer with a detailed planting diagram. Supporting documents include a plant list with care notes and pictures of your plant palette.

Project Implementation With their final design in hand, some clients take it from there DIY or work with one of our partner contractors. We can help with consulting during the installation phase, source your plants and place them on planting day and do a plant orientation walkthrough to help you get to know your new plants.

Tending Your Landscape We offer sustainable/organic maintenance and garden coaching services.

When the landscape design phase is complete, I can refer you to my team of qualified installers and help guide the implementation process. Consultation during implementation can include:

  • Gather estimates and help determine project budget and phases

  • Pre-construction meeting and walk-through

  • Plant Sourcing and placement on planting day

  • Landscape orientation when the project is complete helps you get to know your new plants and garden elements and how to care for them through the seasons.

  • Family garden orientation is a fun way to get everyone involved! I offer a planting and tending mini-workshop with kids.
