Saffron Crocus
Crocus sativus
Saffron or autumn crocus is a fall-blooming bulb with pink to purple blooms. The graceful, grass-like leave appear before bloom time. lThe orange stigmas are the spice saffron and have been cultivated in the Mediterranean region for thousands of years. The spice can be carefully harvested around October in the PNW. Pick the threads in the morning once the dew has dried.
Crocus
Plants don’t produce seed, but the corms slowly multiply and can be divided every few years to propagate.
Plant bulbs 3-4” deep in well-drained soil.
Grows 6” tall, in sun to light shade.
