Native throughout the mountains of the PNW, from so-called British Columbia down through southern so-called California. A beautiful large shrub with arching branches and sprays of white blooms in early summer. Their flowers attract lots of bees, butterflies, other insect pollinators, and hummingbirds, and their seeds are food for many birds. They are a host plant for the larvae and caterpillars of many native butterflies and moths, and provide habitat for birds, small mammals and frogs.

This plant is on the Portland Plant List.

Plant in full sun or light shade. Drought tolerant. Great in a hedgerow or woodland area, or as a beautifully-pruned shrub.
