Salvia sclarea

Biennial or short lived perennial. The first year puts on wide low dark leaves and the second year sends up a white flower stalk with lilac margins. Soft silver leaves. Ancient medicinal and very aromatic.

Dead head to prevent self seeding if desired, and do not plant in areas where this herb is considered an invasive plant.

Grows to 3’. Full sun to light shade, average to well-drained soil.

Sow seeds 1/4” deep and 1-2” apart in spring or fall. Germination 10-14 days or when soil warms. Can also be started indoors in flats 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplanted into the garden.
