Asclepias speciosa

Native. Perennial. Monarch butterfly host plant. Ornate pink flowers in early summer. Silky seed pods in fall. Grow in full sun, in average, moist but well-drained or dry soil. This species will spread quite a bit over time in moister soil, and stay more compact and smaller in average soil.

Plant in pots in fall; place outdoors. Grow in pots the first year. Transplant gently, tap rooted.

Plant in pots in fall and place in a cool place, covered to protect from critters. Allow seedlings to grow in pots the first year to develop a sturdy tap root. Transplant gently.
